The original story that eventually became VAMP NATION FROM OUTER SPACE™ was developed in 1994 by Ted Lody, Bellen Lee, and Arthur Chin and further developed later in 1995 with Jason Dyjak. The early version of the story was called VAMPIRE NATION: VAMPIRE SUBWAY™. That story was eventually published as a part of an anthology series called LETTERBOX COMICS PRESENTS™ in 1996. In the anthology, two other stories also appeared: SMILEY FACE INC, with story and art by Kevin Mackey, and HEAVEN AND HELL: THE GATHERING™, with story by Bellen Lee and art by Ted Lody. Part of HEAVEN AND HELL: THE GATHERING™ would later be developed as a recurring storyline in ROTH VANGUARD AND VENOMOUS VIPERS™ Graphic Novel, with story and art by Ted Lody. Late in 2015, Ted Lody started developing ROTH VANGUARD AND VENOMOUS VIPERS™, published in 2019 as an ongoing series.

The creative team of Dyjak and Lody would return.

The creative team of Dyjak and Lody would return in 2016 to redevelop the original story and character ideas into what would later become VAMP NATION FROM OUTER SPACE™. The new story went through several story and character revisions. Dozens of new characters were created and introduced throughout the series, many with complex and intersecting story arcs. As the characters in the story evolved, so did the artwork as the series progressed. Dyjak and Lody constantly challenged each other with new story concepts and design elements, taking the entire series to the next level with every issue.

Inspiration and Influences

Inspiration and Influences Dyjak and Lody draw on several sources of inspiration when developing VAMP NATION FROM OUTERSPACE™; creative techniques from film and comic books were used throughout the series. Story and world-building creative influences include VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE role-playing game, HIGHLANDER the film and TV series, STAR WARS films, DOCTOR WHO TV series, TRON films, and many more. Lody’s visual style drew inspiration and influence from artists John Byrne, Frank Miller, and Tim Bradstreet; and from filmmakers Stanley Kubrick, Ridley Scott, Michael Mann, and George Lucas.
